Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 20th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly butif not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone

I actually slept well last night, only woke at 12.30 and then 5:T That's good for me.

Had a busy weekend. OH and I cleaned out the veg bed and the greenhouse. We moved the shed too, so it's in a better place. Paianted the outside rails again, they were really rusty:eek: Now the whole house is done outside:T

It's DD and SIL's first anniversary today. Can't believe it's a year since we were getting all worked up about the wedding!

It would also have been my Mamma's 76th birthday, so will be thinking about her too today.:o
My sister is going to her grave today. ( She only lives 10 minutes away, I'm 2 hours both ways.)

Need to get to another friend who's birthday is today too. Then I think I will ge andget my nails done.
Busy day!

((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) for those who need them.
I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Morning Hilstep & all who cross/post
Hubby is on holiday woohoo & today we are off on our first day trip, Winchester here we come, lol it's only about an hour away, hour & a half the way I drive!
The chores are done, DW on fish fed, cat poo cleared off the drive, baskets watered & I've printed a list of the places we want to see.
The weather isn't meant to be very good today but as long as it doesn't rain non-stop we'll be ok.
    Have a lovely day everyone
    Hugs Hester

Good Morning Hilstep, Hester and all to follow.
Well done on your sleep Hilstep - I was so hot and uncomfortable I only dozed...it seemed a very long night!
Hester, I really hope you enjoy your day in Winchester. Only been there once ( apart from a college interview when I was 18!) but we enjoyed our visit.
Cleaned off the window ledges in the conservatory, plus wiping round the frames of the doors yesterday. Apart from doing washing that was about it! Today the WM is on, and I must do the minutes from Saturday's meeting. Hoping to finally get in to John Lewis to replace the badly dyed wool if we've time this morning after dogs have been walked and I've been to the gym. Weightloss in past four weeks is 12 lbs, so am really pleased with that. Just need to keep it up now! We are going out with friend to the Indian tonight, so must choose carefully.
May do a little ironing as well - but that will depend on how hot it gets later.
Hope you all have a good day today - take care of yourselves.

    Morning :hello:

Our patio is almost done :j Neighbour's son had borrowed his disc cutter so one edge needs finishing but it looks fab. It was really muggy yesterday and we had to rearrange stuff in the garden, it was horrible. But it's done now and I can sit on my freebie cane furniture in the shade on my new slabs :D

Did quite well food-wise yesterday - HM tomato soup and crusty rolls for lunch, later on I wasn't really hungry so I ate a bowl of homegrown new potatoes, steamed and with butter. Yum.

I've got some slats from an old pine bed, I'm going to try making a shoe rack.

Homegrown so far - 37lb. That's not including the onions, I haven't weighed them yet. I'm going to try plaiting them - I try every year and fail miserably :D

    Hello x
Hester - we went to Winchester yesterday to have lunch with hubby's professor uncle. Have a lovely day :T

We are revving up for Reading this week. I have to try not to worry too much as my kids always go incommunicado. My husband works very close and the kids know this so I have visions of them turning up smelly and bedraggled at the posh reception asking to use the company's toilet and showers:eek:

Really busy week as I have four hospital appointments in 3 days including a trip to London:eek:

House is an absolute tip. We are still waiting to get our study organised and then it will be a long haul sorting and decluttering. Hope to get it sorted asap as really getting on top of me now.

    Have a good day x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Cloudy and overcast here this morning, but still quite warm and supposed to be another sunny day. Washing on line already.

Got home from hols on Sat eve 7pm'ish - we were going to have an overnight stop and finish the journey yesterday but decided not too and whilst it was a long day, the journey and traffic wasn't too bad at all and we had no hold-ups/delays/traffic jams so left at 10.30am and got home at a reasonable time. All went well, had a real mixed bag weatherwise, but no day was ruined by rain, although we had some really heavy downpours during the night on several occasions. Everything I had organised went according to plan, the night we went to the Tattoo was clear, bright and warm - people were sat in shirt sleeves until 10.30pm! Everyone seemed to enjoy the trips and activities I'd organised.

Now back to normal with a bump, going to work today, so spent yesterday emptying caravan, washing and drying, generally household chores, visited the oldies.

I haven't had chance yet to try to catch up with everyone's news so will endeavour to do that over the next few days.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Morning All

Damp day here, it was really misty last night, quite spooky at work - couldn't see a thing! Worked from 5 til 10 but it was hard going and very hot. Day job today, hope it gets better and I must watch how much fuel I use as it may not be worth the travelling for the amount I get paid.

Managed to get 2 loads of washing dried outside yesterday before the heavens opened, one lot was DDs bedding which I put back on without ironing it!

Lunch today is ham salad and some fruit and tea will be chicken korma. I have to take my car in as it has rust bubbles and should have a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty but I'm sure they will find a reason not to cover it!. Also got a village hall committee meeting and then picking someone up from the airport at 11pm - so glad I have a night off work!!

Enjoy the new week. Take care. XX

First full week of the kids being back at school (I'm in Scotland) plus OH has to go into the office today. He's been working from home a lot over the summer and between him and the kids being underfoot for the last six weeks I'm tearing my hair our over the state of the house (always bad, currently considerably worse) and just desperate for a bit of peace and quiet and to get back into some sort of routine.

Had to register again today so will have to go back and thank people in a minute.

Greetings everyone. This is early for me but with the way my life goes I have to snatch moments when I can. Have just read through the weekend's posts and am amazed at what you all get up to. Loulou - it was lovely to hear that you are feeling a bit better now. Don't overdo the nesting!

Moorhen - That was shocking about your DD. It's not so much the actual theft but the fright your poor girl had and the lack of confidence in her surroundings. I hope she will get over it soon.

Hester - Don't worry about your house inspection. I had many of them when I was adopting my boys. I remember apologising to one social worker as she gingerly picked her way across a room littered with toys. She said that the only thing that would have worried her was if it had looked like a show house. No chance of that, I thought.

Have just noticed the date and realised that if I hadn't divorced my ex we would have been celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary today. Phew! I don't think celebrating is the right word.

Very muggy and grey here, the air feels soupy. This is our day off ( hollow laughter) so we are going to go out for lunch so hopefully no cooking today.

We spent Saturday turning our unused dining room into a store for the Drop-in. Then we cleared the rest of the house of all the AF and donated goods and stacked them neatly on tables and in crates. This gave us back the breakfast room - oh, yes. please note, we have a breakfast room, how posh is that? I washed the curtains we were provided with and they disintegrated so I will be able to replace the hideous things with some plain cream ones, and I have just the thing. One unused cream curtain from I*ea that, cut in two, will fit beautifully.

Church Magazine week this week. Heigh Ho.

Have a pleasant and productive day everyone
