Allofadither, I promise you I'm not remotely concerned about my name being in the paper, & I'll tell you why.
- It's not on the front page - it's a titchy little thing in the classifieds at the back. How many people do you know read those - most people I know don't even bother buying the local paper, & if people see it who don't know me, why should I care what they think? They'll forget it in a few minutes.
- It appears in the paper once, & once only.
- If anyone passes comment (& I bet they don't), just remind yourself that you're not a criminal. You're in the paper for bankruptcy. Not murder, !!!!!!, drugs, mugging the elderly or rape, or anything else even close to as bad. I'd find it far more embarrassing to be in the paper for shoplifting, or being caught having sex in the park.
What about those people whose names are published for not paying their Council Tax? They're right near the front of the paper, sometimes even on the front page, & everyone remembers them! You can remind any silly commentators of any or all of that, if you feel up to it, but I'm pretty sure no-one relevant or important is even going to notice it.
There's only one person that I know who might see it, & that's because she's a nosey mare with just the cat to talk to, & he's going deafJust walk with your head held high - I fully intend to. You've done nothing wrong.
. She wouldn't have the face to say anything to me, because her son's doing time for a lot of stuff as we speak (I think he's been through the gates almost as many times as the governor), so she's in no position to judge.

It should only need to appear once as long as the description is correct however if the description has to be ammended (rare in debtors petition cases) because it is not full (missing names, addresses, business details), it be advertised again. Also if a dividend is declared, the notice of this will be advertised as well to make sure that all creditors are aware (this could be years later)0 -
Well, if they get mine wrong, they'll have to find out for themselves because I won't be telling them. I'm going to get the local rag next week for the first time in months just to see what the ads look like. I'd better be in it the week after that - 45p is 45p.

how soon after the event is it in the paper? are you informed when it will appear?0

I don't know - it could be anytime within 2-3 weeks I suppose, & I doubt that you'd be informed in advance. They can't do it until the official notices go out to your creditors, so it would be some time after that, & if they miss the publishing deadline for your particular paper, then that's another week to add on top.
Allofadither, when I replied to your concerns about the local paper yesterday, I should have added that your bankruptcy will also appear in the London, Edinburgh or Belfast Gazette depending on where you live - they're the papers where official records are published. I had a look at the London Gazette online last night - from what I could see, it goes first by the date of the bankruptcy order with the most recent at the top, then in alphabetical order. Everyone I viewed got their BR orders during the last week, so I'd think it will appear locally as soon as possible after that.
You can only get to see the first 200 names online free of charge, & as it's in alphabetical order, the chances are my name won't show up to the average member of the public who won't have paid for an online subscription (it's fiercely expensive) as my name starts right down the alphabet. Most people don't even know the London Gazette exists, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Well i'm actually quite concerned about my name appearing in the paper for a few reasons. I was concerned about my family finding out but I went to see them at the weekend and have confessed my sins and they were lovely.
What I am concerned about is though that one of the lads in the office reads the local paper so guessing that my employers will find out!! My boss is of the 'old school' type and now think I may be looking for a new job soon.
Also I left an abusive relationship just over two years (I literally just put as much as possible into a couple of black bags and left) and I am now concerned about my ex partner and their family finding out where I live.
They could put the advert in any other paper they wanted to (there are four published within 10 miles of my home town) just wish they didn't have to put it in the one that is published in my home town
