Can anyone recommend a dry weedkiller that I can brush into the driveway, and then lt the rain do it's work? I usually spray but there are far too many to deal woth that way.

I'm asking here rather than google as I'm hoping for a MSE (ie cheap) answer :)

Brush cooking salt in the cracks on a dry day, child and pet safe too.

You don't need to boil up water specially - just nip out when the potatoes and veggies are cooked and drain the cooking water onto the weeds.

(It is an idea to tell your neighbours what you're doing and why before the rumours start flying about ...!)

Just a bit concerned about encouraging pests this way?

Am definitely going to try the dregs of the kettle method and then salt before I invest in a chemical solution. I've spent quite some time tidying up the garden today, and whilst I'm rewarded with a "good" ache, pulling the weeds out of the driveway was no fun.

You need a knapsack sprayer. A decent 16litre one, like a Matabi, will cost you under £50, but it will last for years if you look after it, and spares are cheap.

You don't need to put 16 litres in it if you get back ache. I always work with 10litres, as it makes calculating strength of glyphosate easier.

Reading this thread is interesting, because there simply isn't an ideal solution any more. The Powers That Be have decided to ban most residual weedkillers, and to be effective something like salt has to remain at high residual levels, which is just another way of poisoning the soil. Lots of people don't like glyphosate, but even if you find it acceptable, you still have to have weeds first in order to kill them!

Oh yeah, you can go out with some boiling veggie water and drain that onto your driveway.....if you don't have a driveway the size of mine. It might take a couple of years to get round it that way. Perhaps that's what my neighbour is doing! :rotfl:
