Paying for your own hen do

  • Are they only asking you for the extra money (ie for the 'add on' and the person dropping out)? If so I think that's a bit cheeky - if everyone going is chipping in extra to cover these new bits though then that's fair enough. Although I do think £100 extra is a lot of money on top of what you've paid out already and would be asking them to see if there was any way they could get whatever it is any cheaper...

I think they have asked everyone else but not had a response so asked me.

They didn't want to ask everyone else for the extra when someone dropped out due to feeling they was at people's limits cash wise for the night out as it is.
Just bugging me as its now when suppliers will be asking for cash, so not the best timing :-)

When I had mine,I paid for my mum and I to have a massage for me and pedicure for mum. When we went back to my mums with the family she had bought all the nibbly food bits, and then when I went out in the evening with friends,it was my full intention to pay my shre for my food but everyone else chipped in which covered my meal. When we went out for a few drinks everyone again clubbed together, all I spent that day was £6 to get into a club!

I agree with most of the posters above... I would rather pay my way, or at least have the intention, and rather more people as the costs were shared instead.

I assumed I would just pay my share :/ if I don't have to when it comes to it that's a bonus!

If someone's dropped out after things were paid for, they should still pay - it's not fair for you or any others to make up the difference.

I've organised my best friend's hen, but as she wanted something expensive (Center Parcs) she chipped in a big sum to ensure everyone could afford things. She's in a position to do that, though. I wouldn't dream of asking for more though - we did have a drop out and luckily I could cancel most of the things, but I've absorbed the costs of the things I couldn't cancel. All the hen should do, once initial costs have been agreed, is turn up!

i am paying for my hen do CBM has been given a budget (includes the first round of drinks but after that its up to everyone to get their own) so i am paying for whatever we do before the club

i have firmly set the budget and if they want to do anything that goes over the budget then they have to pay for it

I had a spa weekend, so paid for my own. I also went out for a meal with my friends from work, who each paid a bit extra to pay for my share.

No help to the OP whatsoever!

When my hen was being arranged, I had a couple of chats with my BM about it. I had to give her the guest list, and she asked me what sort of thing I'd like.

I was keen on having a weekend away somewhere, my friends live all over the UK and Ireland, and we all have very different incomes. I decided to give my BM an amount of money towards the kitty, and I told her that I hoped it would subsidise some of the less-well-off hens. In the end, no one was excluded for lack of funds - at least one person had their flights completely covered.

I'm happy to chip in for the hen's activities when I'm a guest. When I was the hen I was happy to pay in a sum to help make life easier for less-well-off friends. It's a nuanced thing. If I couldn't have afforded to subsidise less-well-off friends, I would have found other ways to make it cheaper/affordable for them.

    Have a great hen!

Its my hen do this Saturday and I will be paying my way. I was hoping to go away for the weekend but that has fallen through.
If someone has dropped out and the costs are being split between everyone then thats not so bad, but if you feel like you're forking out to cover and its more than your fair share then I would say something, its not up to you to cover the cost because someone has dropped out.

I didn't pay for mine and I've always contributed towards the brides for others. Thought this was the norm tbh
