I use Sainsbury's (£1.05) or Asda SP (75p) oats both in a 1kg bag and they're absolutely fine, better IMO than some branded stuff.

While we're talking calorie information, any ideas why some sites tell you the value of e.g. oven chips, raw and cooked (cooked is always higher). Who eats raw oven chips?? Why does value rise on cooking?

Cook a potato for 10 mins. Then cook them for double that to make them really crispy. Weigh both and you see a difference in weight, there is no way to work out for certain the type of oven or method of cooking someone has- (steamer, boiled, oven/fat assisted/halogen/microwave, grill...etc) so to make things easier to write they just give the raw weight.

I don't know if anyone weighs their hot food before swallowing as oppose to the raw ingredience before cooking.

Depends what sort of weight management/ healthy eating plan you are following. Cheap porridge oats are just as nutritious as any, but jumbo/ steel cut/ old fashioned oats are not processed and larger flakes so lower on the glycaemic index. This helps keep you fuller for longer and stabilises the blood sugar. Obviously that doesn't matter to everyone.
