Moving book from one Kindle to another

Apologies if this has already been asked. I have searched but nothing obvious came up.

I have a book on my Kindle (genuine download from Amazon) that I would like to give/lend to a colleague. When I tried to move it to my wifes Kindle (as a test) it would not open - the message said something about it being locked to another user.

Is there any way to remove this "locking"?

If not, this seems more than a little unfair as with a traditional paper book I could just hand it over, or even sell it. However Amazon don't seem to be happy with just charging you the same price as a paper copy, they want to stop you selling it on also.....

Any ideas,

Thanks

i think there is a note about this on the amazon site about transferring ebooks ....i found this :Kindle books can be loaned to another reader for a period of 14 days. The borrower does not need to own a Kindle -- Kindle books can also be read using our free Kindle reading applications for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices. Not all books are lendable -- it is up to the publisher or rights holder to determine which titles are eligible for lending. The lender will not be able to read the book during the loan period. Books can only be loaned once, and subscription content is not currently available for lending.

only some books can be lent
the truth is out there ... on these pages !!

    Thanks for the response.

I have checked and this particular book (and every other book in my library) cannot be leant out.

Judging by the $ signs on the page you referred to, I wonder whether this a US issue only??

    Anyone got any other suggestions?

I think lending is US only.

Can you register the device you want to 'lend' to as an additional device on your Amazon account then synch the 'new' device to add whatever books you have already bought on your account? Not ideal as it will stop the owner of the other device buying books (unless they use your account).

Not ideal, but I have done this to add books to my partner's tablet.
