Kwik fit have renewed my car insurance after I cancelled

I just checked my bank and Kwik Fit have taken a payment for insurance that I had cancelled over a week ago.
My insurance was at the end of the policy and they sent me a hugely inflated renewal price so, phoned them to cancel as I did not want to take them up on the offer for another year. They reduced the price by over £300 but, it was still far more expensive than the cheapest on gocompare. I told them I was not interested and they said they had cancelled it. I thought my wife had also, cancelled the direct debit but, she forgot and we are now down by £71.
The car's gearbox has failed and we have had to sell it so, we no longer even have it!
What can I do about this, how can I prove that I phoned them? surely they would have some records as they did try and reduce it.
Will my bank reverse it?
Any help would be great!

Claim the direct debit back through the indemnity scheme on Monday and ask the company why they took payment out of your account.
It could be that you had left it a bit late to cancel as the direct debit could have been in the system as you cancelled.0 -
Call your bank and ask them to refund your account under the direct debit guarantee.
Then call Kwik Fit and remind them.0 -
Will it be that easy?
I was worried they would not refund and charge £25 cancellation fee for a policy I didn't even want or need.
Thanks for the advice guys, this problem has really cost us a lot of trouble, we were arguing last night about my wife not cancelling the direct debit. That money was suppose to buy our food shopping this weekend as we are completely out.
I guess I could maybe borrow some money now, if I'm going to get it back at some point. Thanks a ton KwikFit :mad:0 -
if you get the bank to recall the money it should be in your account over night0

Thanks for the mention of indemnity scheme, the teller said that it was not possible to refund until I mentioned this scheme

As a side note if your thinking of getting car insurance from Kwik fit
Their auto renewal quote was:
Car premium: £671.31
Policy upgrades: £80.98 (not a clue what this is)
Total cost: £752.29
Interest charge: £142.94
Credit arrangement fee: £35
Total charge for credit: £177.94
Total payable: £930.23
Monthly installments: £77.51
One off installment: £77.62
My cheapest quote on go compare:
Deposit: £50
Monthly 10x: £22.08
Total: £271
Make sure you shop around!!! Do not trust Kwik fit to give you a good deal just because you are already a customer!!0
