I can't really find anything wrong with the points in the OP. House prices are being artificially supported by the government, and by default we taxpayers.
The big recipients of this are landlords, banks and builders.
Very few people who rent privately are advantaged by the fact they are trying to outbid housing benefit recipients, and then survive in a private rental system designed to be as accommodating to landlords as possible.
Very few people who buy a home to live in are advantaged by having to outbid landlords.
If you are trying to buy / rent a home with your own money and live in it yourself you are up against all sorts of subsidised groups.0 -

With housing benefit set at the 30th percentile of local rents, it would be more accurate to say very few are trying to outbid housing benefit recipients at all.
If we're to be accurate, just 3 in 10 may find that to be an issue, and in fact, it'll be a bit less than that in reality as only 22% of private renters claim benefits...
But I suppose the truth, ie, that 78% of private renters will not be bidding against benefits claimants at all let alone having to outbid them, doesn't make for such a snappy piece of propaganda.....Very few people who buy a home to live in are advantaged by having to outbid landlords.
Again, very few people who are buying a home are bidding against landlords to begin with.
The number of BTL mortgages issued is a small fraction of the number of FTB mortgages issued, even today.
And the vast majority of homes being sold will never have a landlord bid on them.
But don't let reality get in the way of a good argument....

Not all landlords are buy to let scum lords. As often as not they are cash rich boomers, or Ruperts and Camillas, eager to cash in on the renters gravy train.
You can't really lose with renting out after all, you can charge an extortionate private rent for a hovel, then if the poor schmuck you are renting to loses his job, housing benefit will just pay the rent instead.0 -

I really appreciate your help both with making me mortgage free on my PPR but also now presumably for helping pay off the mortgage on my BTL.

My apologies. I wasn't clear if you were thanking him for the article or his financial contribution.
It's good to know I'm not the only one grateful for his financial aid.
It's frankly no wonder there are so many people upset about the current housing situation if their work is going unrecognised.
If others want to declare their aid to me I will, of course, be only too happy to personally thank them as well.0
