Wickes Kitchen Fitting....

OK so I need a new kitchen in my new property and quite like the a Wickes one. They designed it and gave me a quote today.

So the units, oven, hob, sink, tiles and worktop cost £2750, which is a little more than I expected (but they have got the wrong oven listed, so it should drop £100 or so) but was happy with.

However, they have then quoted the installation as £3050, which I thought was extortionate. From talking to others, I was expecting around £1500....

This has been divided - £1920 Wickes installing the cupboards and such, and then £1133 specialist for electrics and floor.

Am I going mad and should really expect that or are they taking the ****?

but looking at your post they aren't just fitting the units, they have to remove the existing kitchen & the tiles, sort the walls out ready for re-tiling, move or add electrics etc etc etc, yes it may be slightly ott but the sheds or kitchen co are always going to be more expensive than if you got a builder/chippy/electrician/plumber in yourself.

    Hi,

Yes I would agree if they were doing all of that but they aren't.

    The cost is for

    - install of oven, hob, sink, existing tumble dryer and washing machine
    - cabinets
    - floor tiles (there are no wall tiles, existing or new)
    - work surface

I have no doubt that it's more than 1 man job, but I don't see why that should cost £3k, I wasn't expecting removing cupboards and putting new ones on would cost £1900, the current kitchen is currently unused. There's nothing massive or compliacated. That cost also doesn't include any electronics that may need changing. It's just checking them.

Well how many units are there? if the labour charge for just fitting units, worktops, cornice, light pelmets etc is £1,920-00 then either its a large kitchen or they are charging a lot for fitting.

If they charge £240-00 per man day then thats 8 days to fit.Thats a high day rate, its not rocket science fitting Wickes kitchens.

Last one I fitted was 17 units, worktops, cornices, light pelmets,2 full height pull-outs etc etc and took 6 days ,included stripping out the old kitchen, total was £1300-00 incl vat.

    Hi

    There are

    - 3 wall units
    - 2 corner (the long ones, not L shaped)
    - 1 drawer base
    - 5 other base ( 3 of which are not being used but I need 500mm doors to put on an existing room height cupboard, but I have to buy the whole unit to use the doors as they only sell 600mm doors)

Way too high, as Southcoast says get some quotes......Off the cuff I would say 3 days max........
  • All the shed selling kitchens charge a lot for fitting. They have a whole dartment that needs paying rather than just the fitter. If its a Wickes kitchen you like find a fitter who also has an account with Benchmarx and you may even end up getting the kitchen cheaper. Benchmarx and wickes are both owner by travis Perkins so their kitchens are the same apart from a couple of ranges

Its what the others above have said. Its not too expensive for the sheds because they cream off the vast majority for themselves and the fitter gets only a fraction of it but its far more than an independent would charge. Buy the kitchen you like and get an independent to fit it.

    Cheers

Thanks, those ideas seem fine. I am not in any rush to get it done as I have a lot of other work to do in the mean time.

I wasn't much bothered about the specialist just mainly the Wickes fitting charge of £1900, which I expected to be about half.

Only problem is that I need to find a local fitter... ;)
