I sold a small value item on Thursday and was immediately asked if they collect, I replied yes, and would be about Thurs, Fri and Sat, if they could give me a rough idea of time.
They replied that they were driving from North West area to friends in South and were going to collect on the way, and it would probably be Sat or Sun. i replied that Sunday wasn't possible (we're actually away but just said we were out for the day).
I've had a reply this morning saying they are definitely not coming today, it will be tomorrow, at 6pm - so could i leave the item at a friend or relatives house - preferably nearer the motorway than where I live!! We live approx 30 mins from motorway junction so I always thought that it was a lot of effort to save £2.50 on postage.
I haven't got friends who live any nearer to the motorway anyway, nor do I want to involve anyone else for the sake of a few pounds.
How would you tactfully reply?
Thanks!

How about something along the lines of....Hi, thanks for your message. Unfortunately I won't be back home in time to meet you tomorrow. I am here until xpm today, I know that may be a little short notice, so can also be around on xxxx or yyyy day.
I hope that will be of some help.
I would ignore the request to leave with a neighbour/friend.0 -
If I was the OP I would also offer to send the item if paid the £2.50 postage through paypal.0

Yep, combine the two last answers and you have a brilliant, very tactful reply!
