Another possible solution is Microsoft OneNote, if you have Microsoft Office you already have it on your computer, you can use it for free on Skydrive (just sign in with your Live ID (Hotmail)) and there are apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phones, and with your Live ID notes will automatically be saved to Skydrive so you have the notes on all your devices (but you should always download a local copy for backup).

Thanks Linbox. I can see that there are a lot of note taking apps for Android. If I download the app onto a tablet (using my home WiFi connection), do you know if you need to stay connected to the internet to use the app or can you use it without internet connection once it's downloaded.

Sorry to sound so thick, but I really have no clue about these things.

You should be able to take notes as and when you like once the software is installed, just like on a phone. You can save them to dropbox as default and next time you are connected to wifi it will back them up.

As others have said Pen & Paper is far more reliable and easier to borrow a pen or some paper. - Saying that I always meant to type up any notes after any lectures or meetings but never did.

I have an HTC Flyer 7" tablet which has a note taking facility in which you can record written notes,sketches/diagrams, and audio linked to calendar all in the same note-file with a time line share or store with Evernote etc. Uses a pen not fingers

Currently available around 230 pounds WiFi version
