thankyou dr V
good to have you back:T:j
It's great to be backTechy help please:
Son moving to uni
Internet provided in his room in halls via an ethernet cable, individual wifi banned (and policed). Is there any way of getting the internet on his iphone through his laptop? Iphone uses so much data and his contract only gives 500MB a month. At home he has the house wifi but away I'm afraid the limit won't be enough. I doubt there is any free wifi floating nearby as his room is on the 10th floor of a tower block.
(Dell inspiron laptop with windows XP and iphone 4S).
I know it says the wifi is banned but I guess they mean buying their own. What I was going to say was can your son not use his laptop as a portable wifi hotspot and share the wired connection with his phone? I did this out in HongKong. If you have windows 7 it is easy.
http://mintywhite.com/windows-7/set-windows-7-wifi-hotspot-quick-tip/ So he could upgrade. With XP it is more difficult (but I had XP so did it) http://www.ehowportal.com/xp-laptop-mobile-wi-fi-hotspot/
Hope this helps your son and good luck to him! :TCall_of_Trouty wrote: »Why would he need it through his phone if he has it through his laptop :huh:I can't do that. :rotfl::rotfl:[...]

Just looking at people's post counts. I've made 295 posts but only 191 have been thanked for anything, meaning I've said over a hundred things that no-one gave a **** about
HC, on the other hand, has been thanked for more posts than he's actually made. Now THAT'S an achievement!
HC has seen fit to remove a few* but the thanks remain in the total.

In answer to this, I needed it so I could talk to my wife on my Phone using Skype (so free). I don't like sitting at the laptop and don't have Bluetooth or wireless headphones. :A
