  • i make lists and timetables>>> i didnt bother for the first year and was constantly behind< nothing was in on time> and i was so disorganized< now i plan everything< i find the lists really help as you can tick things off as they are done and actually see the mountain of tasks getting smaller

Im a single parent of a three yr old and often question the sanity of doing a degree but now im halfway through ive got no regrets even when i don@t get enough sleep which makes me fart< lol< nightmare

try approaching tutors who have children themselves as they are likely to be more sympathetic

    hope it works out :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm in my 3rd year and have just handed in my dissertation (3 weeks early) and have one more biggie to go + exam in June.

Key to all this is planning as some have said here. I have 2 kids - 6 and 12 and fitting it all in is a nightmare, esp as a lone parent!!!

What I do is during my free days I do all the housework, and shopping etc. Then when kids are in bed, I switch off all distractions - tv and music etc. Get all my materials around me and read for at least an hour so I have it in my mind what I have to do. Then I turn on pc and do not open any browsers or emails unless I need to access college intranet. DO NOT open MSN - that is deadly - LOL

Make sure you only work for 40 mins max before taking a break - after that, your brain starts to get a bit numb and you will write rubbish!!!

With essays and reports - plan them out properly - mindmaps - lists of contents - whatever's easiest for your way of working - Don't just plunge straight in or you WILL get in a state.

With the late assignments, I would either recommend getting a certificate of extenuating circumstances, or ask if you can re-sit the subjects next year - it may hold you up but starting afresh may help to motivate you. First year stuff is really to break you into study and your marks don't count towards your final grade - you just have to pass it to qualify for the next year.

Also, are you on the right course for you???? It maybe that you're not getting motivated because you're not enjoying yourself??? If so, sit down with the prospectus and see if there's a better course for you and see if you can do a transfer - It's taken me 4 years to get my degree so far because I changed course - Did marketing originally and absolutely hated it!!!!

Hope this helps a bit, but YOU CAN DO IT!!!
