Hi, can anyone tell me best way to make this claim. Do I need to book an appointment for the job centre? or do I apply online?
I dont officially stop getting paid until 31st august, do I hve to wait until then?

Free school meals are income based but if you/your wife are entitled to WTC then you won't qualify.
Free school Meals
Parents in England do not have to pay for school meals if they receive any of the following:- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
- Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

patty - thanks now i am confused
ionstead of wife going from 21 to 24 hours to get WTC would we be better to leave her so we cant get wtc, and instead get ctc
will £25-£30k of assets not stop us getting the CTC??
Thanks0 -

not at the moment (crazy isn't it how some benefits are dependant on savings and others not).
from April this is being looked at but not before.
What will count is your Annual pay to date (from April).
So if your redundancy package includes pay (not sure how it is being paid) then your YTD pay and your wifes pay is over the threshold for CTC then you won't get them until April 2013 when the savings will then count.0 -

Thanks very much
I have had 5 months real pay of c 4800 a month before tax, and deductions, so even if I dont find work for rest of financial thats still with JSA of 6 months at 290 a month, 26k and then i received a bonus in may for last years work but paid this year of 7k ....so annual income still 33k, so not expecting this to work
partner only earns about 8k per annum for her pt work
now out of wok with 3 schoolage children, school meals would be big for us
i will have good play with the link tomorrow...it looks very user friendly0 -

with 33K plus her wages it looks doubtful for CTC. Then in April when you can claim your savings will be taken into account and you won't be entitled.
I was in a similar position last month so know how it feels when you have worked and paid, but that doesn't change anything.
Cont based JSA of £71 pw (and they tax this) is all you get.
I asked for a mortgage payment break (as I had overpaid I was allowed 12 months free and then 3 years at interest only). We didn't need it as I got a job etc but worth a phone call to your mortgage company to see what if any help they can give.0 -
thanks, I have been overpaying mortgage so instead of £750 have been paying odwn £1050. I chaneged the term to shorten it. I can change it back but its a £50 fee
I think with the redundnacy and also some share etc which I get when I leave work I will keep the mortgage for the time being (hoping to get work) but its good to know I could save 300 a month if needs be
thanks alot0 -
it's just worth knowing what help they can give. As I said it all worked out for us, but the knowledge that *if* things got tough I had this as a back fall helped the state of mind.
Hopefully after a break (I think everyone needs some space following the stress of redundancy and a bit of family time) you will have a new job soon and then can enjoy your redundancy package and have a lovely family holiday etc and some quality family time.
Good luck,0
