in Credit cards
Hi,
Not sure if im posting in the right place but im looking for a bit of advice.
Im currently registered to credit expert so I can access my credit report. I did all this so I could see my score before applying for a mortgage. All way well until i logged in today to see a late payment default has been recorded on my file this month against my halifax credit card.
Trouble is, there is absolutely no blanace on the credit card at all and hasnt been for a few months. I know for sure I havent spent a penny on it as ive been making a serious effort to clear any debts before applying for the mortgage. Ive logged onto halifax various times tonight to double check everything but there is definitely nothing on the card.
Its had a massive effect on my credit score which has dropped from excellent down to fair.
Was just wondering if anyone knew how I go about getting this default removed as it could have serious consequences for me regarding the mortgage application.
Sorry its so long winded but any advice would be brilliant.
Thanks

Contact Halifax CS and notify them that this marker has been recorded in error and that you are seeking for this to be removed.
If its an error on there part they should remove it which will feed through on their next upload of your account status information to each of the CRAs.
If they think the marker is correctly applied then they should explain why.0 -
You should not be worried.
Credit scores from the likes of Experian are nonsense and should be ignored.
A single late payment marker is not a Default. A single late payment marker in isolation does not do any lasting damage to your credit record. Anyone can make a mistake and forget to make a single payment, so there is a level of tolerance built into the system.
What to do next is to phone Halifax customer service and ask them to explain what caused the late payment marker. If it is their mistake, they will correct it. If it is an honest mistake by you & you are an otherwise a reliable customer, they may remove it if asked nicely.
If They won't remove it then see above - a single late payment marker will not do any significant or lasting damage to your credit record.0 -
The days of asking late payments to be removed from credit reports as some kind of goodwill gesture are over.
If its the customer fails to pay on time then it should be stuck on their credit report ASAP IMO.0 -
Thanks for all the advice.
I shall be ringing them first thing Monday morning to try and clear up the matter.
As a long term Halifax customer I am definitely not amused as it couldn't have come at a worse time but we'll see what they have to say for themselves.
Thanks again for everyone's replies0 -
There cs are open 24hrs a day even at the weekend so no need to wait until monday!0
