Would it simply cost double the amount to do the same for a spouse?
Thanks.
The cost of registering is £130 for each area (Health and Financial Affairs). If you do it yourself, teh cost is your time - and postage costs. You need to think if you need to do the two areas or is one sufficient.
I'm sorry I don't understand the second bit of your question - Would it simply cost double the amount to do the same for a spouse?0 -
I think it was a tongue in cheek line too!
7 Years ago DMIL was happy to sign the power of Attorney the solicitor suggested when she was dealing with DFIL's estate.
At that time there was one form which covered the financial side of Mum's estate. This is still valid even though it has been superceeded by a new format which is split into 2 areas. We are now just setting up a second Power Of Attorney which deals exclusively with Dmil's welfare. She wants this put in place as she wants final decisions to be made by her executives, her son and daughter with doctors advice. It is there just to make sure in this day and age of professionals being afraid of being sued that Mums wishes for example for non intervention if she becomes very ill are observed. Also if she has to go into care her children have rights about decisions made
The solicitor is doing this second part and thinks it will cost £500 - Mum is happy with this as she wants peace of mind
Hope this helpsTry and do a good deed every day.0 -

No I wasn't joking! I was merely wondering whether, if a Solicitor prepared a LPA for both husband and wife, there would be work in common and maybe this might reduce the total to less than twice the cost of a single LPA. I know that the registration costs would obviously double, but the preparation costs?0 -

Why are you using a solicitor? I completed the forms myself and as I said earlier, other than my time and postage, the only real cost is the registration.
You just follow the guidance notes. It is straightforward honest.0 -

Yes, do check out the documentation, DIY is quite possible. If you really decide to use a solicitor, then it comes down to the individual firm, but I should have thought it would be less than twice the cost of doing one on its own.0 -
Certainly some firms offer a discount on two done at once0
