I'm typing this reply on a Lenovo G570 - bought it at Christmas from Amazon, and have found it to be a good machine. The build quality is better than most other models in the same price range, including (IMHO) the Vaio.

Sony for me, but only because the Lenovo would remind me of my work laptop.
  • Although I have no personal experience of Sony, I would say buy Lenovo. I had my Lenovo laptop for 5 years and it gave me no trouble at all. My 6 month old ASUS is nowhere near as well built or reliable. The only reason I didn't buy Lenovo again is because I don't like textured trackpads which Lenovo seem to currently favour. Given a choice again I would probably put up with the textured trackpad of the Lenovo knowing I had a well built machine at a good price.

I have always been a fan of Sony and have owned many of their laptops previously and never had any build or operational issues.

However I have noted their recent models do not appear as robust as previous ones and there may well be some cost cutting going on in order to ship ever cheaper PCs in a very competitive market

Popped into my local PC World the other day and having played around with the model you have asked an opinion on I would def say it appears very flimsy and cheap in terms of build quality.

Looks are also average for this Sony which is very unusual since they do generally build aesthetically pleasing models.

I havent seen or tested the Lenova you mention but going by their pedigree ie they mainly build business machines that are meant to last and capable of withstanding wear tear, I would suggest you drop by your local PC World and have a look / feel / play of the two models and go by what you feel is the better built and sturdier model.

I would take any advice given by their sales staff with a pinch of salt as well

If it was my money I would probably still go for the Sony out of loyalty but would have also given the Lenova serious consideration

If its for business use plump for the Lenova

If its for home family kids use then go for Sony which has more street cred

    Hope this helps

I was always a die hard Sony fan but I don't believe their products are the same calibre as they previously were.

I've had 2 Sony laptops and 1 Lenovo.

I'd generally buy a Lenovo laptop over Sony now.

We just bought dd (18) a new laptop to take to uni and after lots of searching ended up with a Lenova from PC world.

It is very robust and fast and she loves it. We also got a £200 voucher which paid for transferring info safely from her old laptop, healthcheck later in year and £70 worth of entertainment.

Had to take my 20 day old lenova back to currys yesterday,
not been used much and 2 days ago when opening there was loud clicking noises, coming from the hinge on the left hand side, each time i opened the computer, the hinge would creak about 6 times till the lap top was open fully.

Took it back to currys yesterday, didn't have another in, so it's back to the drawing board for another lap top.

Actually liked the computer, although i found the buttons for the mouse to be very flimsy.

I've had both and my vote goes to Lenovo, not had a good experience with Sony laptops.
