What house plants can't last 2 weeks without attention? Did they in fact overcare for your plants and that is what killed them?

Employ a professional housesitter next time - someone who can come and live in your house, look after the pets and the plants.

They were only trying to help. Sadly it didnt workout. I employ a professional house sitter when we go away. we have horses and we need someone with relevant qualifications to look after them for us. They also "do" the house and garden. Its money well spent fr the peace of mind.

I hope you had a nice holiday anyway? Why don't the cats eat all the food that is put out for them are you giving them too much, surely you shouldn't have to throw cat food in the bin.

Cats don't fair well in catteries I find so prefer to leave them at home, cost isn't the issue as we paid £500 for our dogs to be looked after for 2 weeks whilst we were away.

Regardless of weather, most people can tell if plants need to be watered or not, you don't need a degree from the met office! Still I suppose I should have known better as they have 3 dogs that remain crated in the house for most of the day as they can't seem to house train them. Lovely people and would do anything for anyone, just a shame about the plants really. Did manage to get the cat sick out of the cream carpet once we got home though and in no way did I expect the neighbours to sort that out, not even DH goes near vomit! :D

No annoyance shown to the neighbours, just won't ask them again.

You have my sympathy... Years ago, I asked my mother and father in law to stay so that they could look after my vegetable patch - everything had been done... all they had to do was to pick the peas, lettuce etc as they became ready.... well, they didn't... everything was wasted .. a whole season's work... When I asked why they didn't pick the courgettes etc, they said they didn't want to !!!!! That was the whole reason I had asked them to stay... Not only that, they had put the central heating on full pelt for the 3 weeks they were in my house so I came back to a huge gas bill in the middle of July/Aug!!! Never again... I think they watered my tomato plants the day before I returned...

Luckily, I was able to go on holiday in September after that, so my garden was virtually finished by that time....

Anyway, I was interested to read that you pay £500 to kennel your dogs.... I would look after your dogs, cats, budgies, house and garden for that sort of money!!!! To think that I work for a local cat charity for nothing and I give people advice on their gardens, computers etc for free.... maybe I should offer to look after gardens etc as I am now retired!!!

I hope everything is fine now...

My cats, as I am sure every other cat owners cats are, are incredibly fussy eaters. If the food has been down for any length of time they won't touch it so if they don't eat it when it gets dished up invariably they prefer to go hungry resulting in wasted food (or bring me in a dead mouse as a 'gift' to show how hungry they are) :rotfl:
