WARNING: BAGGED JOHN LEWIS MATTRESS Sold as new on ebay is actually old and used

We bought an ebay mattress from lhgold2008 who listed the mattress as "New other" and claimed...

"ALTHOUGH MATTRESS IS BRAND NEW THESE ARE CLEARENCE MATTRESS AND BAGS MAY HAVE SPLIT IN STORAGE AND MAY HAVE PICKED UP A BIT OF DUST OR SLIGHT MARKS."

However, the mattress arrived with the packaging intact but with general water damage covering at least half the mattress, evidence of urine, blood and sweat, worn material and uneven springs common to old well used mattresses.

The seller was rude and stubborn when we complained and we have weeks of trouble with it, we had to pay £55 to have the mattress delivered and PayPal then said we had to pay another £55 to send the mattress back before they could return our £180 for the mattress. So here we are weeks later with no mattress, no £180, definitely never getting out £110 worth of delivery costs back.

Unfortunately, we had a problem with ebay when purchasing the mattress with a custom delivery cost, so the seller told us to pay direct via PayPal. Hence, we can give her bad feedback on ebay. This might be why her rating is good.

So this is just to say...
1) don't buy from lhgold2008 unless you like blood stains on your mattress
2) buy local in case you need to send things back
3) always buy through ebay not direct via paypal

Good luck

You get your first lot of shipping back from paypal, so it's not quite as bad as you think.

    Good grief.

Just shows that eBay is not great for everything, I suppose.

And as it sounds very much like a business seller, I would seriously consider legal action to recover the return postage costs.

If you don't want to do this, a letter before action and a complaint to Trading standards may well result in you getting fully refunded.

As has been said, you get your full original payment back.

And PayPal don't tell you to pay £55 to send it back, the just tell you to send it back tracked. Thy don't do prices! That's down to you.

I would not say that rating is good - 7 negatives and 15 neutrals in 12 months and just over 2000 feedback...

Not necessarily. The way I read it, the shipping payment was sent to the seller via paypal, maybe as a gift.

Well, not being English, I perhaps read the words and not the sentiment? I don't see it.
