Help...credit check for Police Staff job?

I recently applied for a new job, call handler in Police Station.... have got an interview date through and spoken to the HR dept where they advised next step after interview (all going well) is to fill in the vetting form giving details of family members etc, this im fine with what i dont know is do they also carry out a credit check??
entered dmp with payplan last month, (arghhhhhhhh) up until then all credit up to date
credit report now showing 1 late payment pretty much across the board, however have no ccjs (yet!!) bankruptcy, iva etc ..... would late payments if viewed cause a problem with application,,, I would be mortified if was turned down for employment due to debt!!!
Anyone know if they do carry out credit checks are they only able to see ccj, iva, bankruptcy etc or can they see all ie 1 month late payments...obviously if this cropped up id have to explain dmp which am sure wouldnt go down well... ohhhhh am stressed now
Job pays £7k more than my current employment and ironically would sort out our financial issues OH had to take lower paid job after redundancy.

I don't know, but didn't want to read and run...
Think they just look for BR or CCJ's - that's my gut instinct.Ninja Saving Turtle0 -
Yes, I can confirm they do a credit check.0

I don't know whether it can affect your chance of getting the job or not, and I know they're commonplace in several industries but I still resent the fact that they think you're a potential criminal just because you're poor.0

The reason being (excluding the character of the individual being checked) is that someone who is in (serious) financial difficulty compared against someone who doesn't appear to be, may be more inclined to be bribed/lawfully corrupted/turn a blind eye for favours etc.0 -

DevilPigeon is right, the fact that you are debt *may* lead to you being considered a security risk because they may feel that you could be coerced into illegal acts.
The problem you have is that if you lie and get the job, and then they find out you can be sacked for lying on the application form.
Why not take ownership of this problem and tell them BEFORE the check is done and prove to them that you are a responsible adult by dealing with the problem by starting the DMP, you never know they may surprise you and give you credit for being honest.
Good luck and let us know what happens !0 -
ty all for responding xxx oh well wasnt meant to be
i had a feeling that might be the case.. gutted to be honest and dont think ill go through with the initial interview, would be extremely embarrassed if credit was to be the reason was turned down..... not that they would prob give reason anyway..... thanks again

thanks antonic
i do understand why they would do it and i would never have lied on the form.... avoided the issue if need be maybe but never lied or deliberately not answered if asked so that wouldnt be an issue...was just hoping that maybe they were looking for ccj, br etc and it wouldnt need to be brought up
like i said is ironic really as with that extra in salary wouldnt need a dmp anyway ... sods law lol xx

What? That's crazy talk. Don't give up on a job because of a 'maybe'.
I don't know how quickly credit files are updated but when I've ordered paper versions before they have been maybe 2 months behind. So you might have a few late payments on there, big deal. Millions do. Don't regret not going for this job, because you will.0
