The mumsnet thread:

http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/1541546-******-and-******-been-gazundered

"Stand your ground."

The HPC take on the mumsnet thread:

http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=181902

"Not the sharpest chisel in the rack is she? Some people really shouldn't be allowed to buy and sell.

Fingers crossed the FTB sticks their ground and walks away if she won't negotiate.. Then the next one offers £25k under that."

    They all have usernames like Yummy_mummy_in_Chiswick, or Tarquins_mummy99 as well. I agree it is easy to have a closed mind.

    Personally i resent them because they have far more money than me and there is no obvious reason why.

    2 days before exchange, that's bang out of order what ever side of the fence you sit on.

    galling for the seller [who i sympathise with of course on a human level] of course but "bang out of order", really?

    the buyers' circumstances, or views, or whatever, may have changed. if so should they: (1) stick to their original offer, after all it's the morally correct thing to do; or (2) try to re-negotiate?

    note that this is two days before exchange only, i.e. not two days before completion.

    until you've exchanged, nothing has been agreed, not really.

    the seller has quite a few options, e.g.:

    (a) agree to the price reduction;
    (b) negotiate a smaller price reduction;
    (c) refuse any price reduction & be prepared for the deal to potentially fall through, when they'll have to consider other options including renting rather than buying in the new area.

    if they genuinely believe that the house is already priced below market value even before the £17k discount, then they'll be able to afford to rent something genuinely superb, wait to get a 'fair' price for their house, be much better off than agreeing to the £17k.
    FACT.

    If you pull that !!!! two days before exchange you are dropping people right in it. You dont set a date for exchange until you are going to go ahead.

    I pulled out of a purchase late in the day once, but that was because information about subsidence they had been trying to hide from me only came to light late in the day. And I didn't gazunder, i just pulled out.
  • I am deeply "Shocked", as this is the current season for "shocks".

    I thought mumsnet existed purely for these people to discuss the price of baby milk, the standards in daycare centres, and 40 different ways to cut rusks for young Henry and Samantha.....

    Mums have no place discussing financial matters - whether or not in foul language.

    Back to the kitchen sink.....

    Makes you wonder what the propsective new owner might come up in a months time if the sale has gone through.
    They may suddently 'find things wrong' and claim the seller misrepresented the house.

    I'l tell them to shove it.................

    In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
