Sellerfox

I have received this email from someone from Sellerfox

"I’ve just had a look at your eBay offers and am quite impressed with your selection. However, I am wondering, why you don’t display the quality of your feedback and products in your listings directly. Doing so can verifiably improve your conversion rate by up to 39%!
At FOXRATE, we offer an eBay widget that does exactly this – for free! And if you run an online store (or perhaps several), you can collect ratings from all your sales channels (eBay, Amazon & web shops) and display them together in a single trust widget to increase sales in your shop as well!
Currently, more than 10,000 eBay sellers are using the FOXRATE widget in over 1,5 million listings. Please consider yourself invited to join our steadily growing community.

P.S.: I look forward to seeing your individual Seller's Profile and supporting your business in the future!
P.S.S.: Please don’t worry. There are no hidden costs ;-)

Yours faithfully,"

Has anyone heard of this company ? I haven't clicked the link which is the part in red, but google does show them. The email address is a UK one.

My response to this would be to reply asking if they can provide details of objective, robost, third-party research that shows that "Doing so can verifiably improve your conversion rate by up to 39%!"

Also ask them if they have a money back guarantee should you purchase their product but find that your conversion rate does not significantly improve.

(Problem with the last bit might be that they might verbally/emailly offer the guarantee, then just blank you if you try and claim on it if you find no improvement).

It does say it's free and there are no hidden costs, but I wondered how they make anything out of it.

I was hoping one of the 10,000 Ebay sellers would be on here :)

Ah yes, you've exposed my error of skim reading your post without reading it carefully enough.

You could still ask how they can substantiate the claim of "verifiably up to 39%" improvement. The "up to" is a warning sign for me. And I suspect that they've asked people how their sales changed. Sales vary due to large numbers of factors anyhow, even down to random sampling concerning how many people are looking for products of various types at various times, who these people are, and how they act. If they have 10,000 people using their product, and say a hundred reply to a question of how the product has benefitted their sales, then probably someone among those people would have experienced an upswing in sales. If "up to" means that they've selected a particularly good change to quote, then that means even less. And those who reply may not be random, as people who have experienced an upsurge in sales may be more minded to respond to a request concerning how the product works. Hence even knowing the average of their sample may be misleading. Only by seeing a graph showing differences in sales/conversions with and without the widget for a randomly selected group (or all users) would give a firm answer.

Having said that, I think it plausible that displaying information presenting feedback in listings may improve sales. But evidence would help.

The way that they might try to make something out of it is to try to establish a user base with a free product, then bring in "premium" products later on which they will charge for.

Sounds interesting, but I wonder what they do with all that data they're collecting (and who they sell it to). I could believe that displaying one's feedback could benefit sales, although also I personally find it a bit tiresome to have anything at all on a listing other than the item photo and the description.

  • I got the email as well the other day and I did some research into it - definitely would not use it, for one I think Ebay would not be happy about feedback being exported to a 3rd party, also what do they do with all the data they harvest?
If they are that good why are they spamming!

As with chemical.galaxy, I'm agreed. I was returning to this thread after thinking of the same thing but see it's already posted twice over :)

Think I'll give it a miss. I liked the sound of it, but there must be a catch.

    Thanks for the advice.

I totally agree. Some listings are so cluttered it is difficult to find the basic description. Keep it simple, IMO

Steer well clear. Lots of discussions about it on the ebay PS board, and no good feedback from anyone.
Exclamation and question marks - ONE exclamation mark or question mark is sufficient to exclaim or ask about something. More than one just makes you look/sound like a prat.

They are advertising. This website does it !!!!!!. Feedback appears on many listings, ebay have absolutely no interest.
It's a come on to get you to buy services in future. But I agree, a waste of time.
