Faulty tablet from Argos

Options
I bought an Archos 80 G9 from Argos on the 14th August (3 days ago) and found it intermittently made a loud crackling/hissing sound when I used the on screen keyboard. I contacted Archos for advise and they have told me to return it to an address in Southampton, tracked, at my own expence and risk. I would prefer if I could just return it to Argos as it is just a couple of miles away but I am not sure of my rights in this situation. The receipt does say that it is exempt from the 30 day guarantee but I have searched on here and think that may refer to change of mind returns.
Any advise would be gratefully received.

Apparent faulty goods. Return to store under SOGA. If they get uppity then just remind them about their legal obligations - your contract is with ARGOS and not ARCHOS. But keep things friendly at first - you may find that they'll refund or replace straight away.
  • Thanks both for your replys!
Will Argos want to return it to Archos for repair or are are they likely to replace it immediately?

You have only just bought it so they will replace it or give you a refund without any problems. I certainly wouldn't accept a repair.

Well I checked online and went to a store that had one available and sure enough they replaced it there and then. The assistant was very helpful, although she did first ask me if I had called the helpline. Great service and without all the hastle, cost and time to send it back to Archos. Thanks for all your help folks.

  • Argos, for their many faults, normally are good dealing with faulty items and replace new/ nearly new items on the spot rather than messing about with inspections and repairs etc
