Aviva rapid bonus insurance

Hi all,

I am a student so I went with aviva's 9 month rapid bonus scheme which runs for 9 months but gives you 1 year NCB.

I have now been with them for 14 months (on my 2nd lot of 9 months). I am just wondering, am I allowed to ask them for a NCB certificate which covers a year? This is just incase I want to move on from Aviva (found cheaper quotes).

Thanks

    Not in my experience!

OP - As you're 5 months into the 9 month contract you'll get back very little of your premium if you leave. If you can, better to wait and get your 2 year NCD.

I thought only the 1st year was accelerated?

You wont get anything for ending a year early.

And depending on how they give you the no claims it may not be fully accepted by all insurers.

If it doesnt mention bonus or accelerator you should be OK.

But ending now could be costly. Have you asked what their cancellation costs are? And got the quote claiming on year only?

5 months in they could be asking for 80% of the policy value + £50 admin fee.

Is it still cheaper to move?

Ask 1st dont jump in and cancel. Phone and ask what if I cancel now. What would the charges be.

    Ideally record the call.

thoese fast track ncb are generally a bad idea. they're not recognised by all insurers and will only accept 12 months as a full ncb.

so when you decide to switch you might not get a rate as good as you hoped.

also you end up paying more per month on a 9 month plan than you do on a 12 month plan.

you may find that the increase in cost of the shorter polciy might not make much difference on your ncb gains.

for instance my 1st year policy is £1030, i got quoted renewal of £970 with my poxy 1 year ncb. My 10 month policy ended up costing me more per month than a 12 month plan, in the end i was no better off taking a hit for the ncb, because the ncb didn't help my premium by much at all
