Petrol or diesel

I am looking at a new mini countryman 4 x 4 car which will be an automatic and I will only do about 3,500/4,000 miles per year year made up of all short journeys with no motorway driving at all. Also I only plan to keep the car for three years (I get borded of cars very easily and like to change every three years or so.) should I go for a petrol or a diesel model?

Guaranteed to muck up the dpf of any modern diesel car and cause loads of expense and hassle.

Petrol is the only logical choice for that driving profile

The OP doesn't care they will sell it in 3 years.

Having said that marlot is correct, petrol all the way.

With that mileage...petrol all day, every day. No contest.

Still enough time for the dpf to go wrong.

    Definitely petrol.

    Indeed.

In fact, anyone who has the slightest understanding of cars would be put off by a 3 year old diesel with 12000 miles on the clock. Bills likely to follow.

    x2
    Totally agree
    LBM - 11/08
    DMP - 12/08 - £37,255
DFD - [STRIKE]03[/STRIKE] 02/13 - [STRIKE]£6,454[/STRIKE] £3916 to go! (Unless my PPI & FOS claims are upheld, then it'll be earlier!)

    Definitely petrol.

Aye but it would still be in warranty so not the OPs problem.

Hopefully the dealer would still point out all the possible pitfalls.
