Argos; Broken TV - They did good! (mostly)

To cut a long story short! (and to great surprise from me about it all; was expecting engineer visits, repairs, ongoing problems with dates and times etc) start to finish about 8 working days
Okay twice I had to call them to follow up on what was happening as no one called me back after being told I was getting a replacement, but that is more down to me being impatient due to having a screen with 4 vertical 1"bars "missing" in the middle! Pretty sure they'd have called me by the end of the day, except I called first thing in the morning in both cases.
I'm actually surprised that it went so easily. Good Job Argos!
This was under 1 year normal warranty from purchase date, don't have an extended one, but I am considering that now.
- 10month old TV Breaks down (Horizontal bars in the middle of plasma screen)
- Phone argos to talk to someone; get passed onto technician.
- Technician tells me they don't repair LG or Sharp and I get hung up on
- Nice chap actually rings me back right away!
- Tells me someone will call me about it, and they do!
- Told to get a straight out swap. They'll pick up old, drop off new.
- Given date/time
- It actually happens; have a brand new TV. o.O

Don't bother with the extended warranty. Which? magazine says they're a waste of money.0

I'm not so sure really. cost of 4 years on top is £169 but not accidental. Thing is, in 4 years time yes the tv will be outdated, but not out of use especially for me/and its use. If in the next 4 years time I have to get it repaired (bearing in mind first one lasted only 10 months before problems) then I think £169 might cover 1 repair/parts/labour. As long as the warranty doesn't cancel upon one repair for example.
It's a difficult decision, and one that people either risk it or get it. Some of them really aren't worth it, imo either. but I'm a bit torn on this one. (I am equally torn with an ipad 2 warranty which i need to decide in next 20 days if i get or not. if only for a replacement battery as that will be what I need it for. With that I need to check out cost of replacement battery, and whether I'm at half the life that the battery should last before being replaced by warranty as I'm almost a year into ownership)
Some of the warranties I think are worth it. On items that are heavily used, and especially cheap with likes of argos accidental one. Headphones. Bought some new ones as yet again I broke the old ones. So I paid the price for them, and £2 for the warranty. In next 3 years if I break them, I'm quids in persay. ~And I know that I will break them before 3 years as I heavily use them, and abuse them

This is promising, my TV's playing up, greenish tint, wobbly lines. Good to hear they dealt with your problem, hopefully my problem will be sorted quickly too (once I get a copy of the receipt in store, as I've lost mine, but have a credit card statement)0
