My uncle has just had to go into a care home, we met with someone from continuing health care and are awaiting the outcome to see if he is eligible for full funding, I am not very hopefull and would like to know how much he would have to pay, he claims AA ( which we know will now stop) pension credit, housing benefit, he and his wife has circa £9K in savings, any info would be appreciated.

  • It depends on each individual home what they charge, so you should contact them directly.

If he pays for himself, his AA will not stop. If he pays in part it may not - I don't know, others may be able to answer this.

Do you really mean they have nine pounds in savings? Nine?

If he isn't eligible for continuing health care then the bulk of his pension and pension credit will be paid to the home leaving him with a small amount for personal spending.

Why do you think he will have to pay for care? https://www.ageuk.org.uk/Documents/EN-GB/Factsheets/FS10_Paying_for_permanent_residential_care_fcs.pdf?dtrk=true

Their savings would be split 50/50 so he only has £4.5K in capital.

Make sure his wife gets a benefit assessment so that she claims everything she's entitled to.

Everyone pays though no matter how little money they have. There's no such thing as free care!
