Barclaycard Protection Policy - HELP!

Hi
I'm embarking on clearing significant debts and as part of this I am seeking to reclaim anything I can.
I have a Barclaycard. I have found a letter whilst trying to sort things out dated this February, which asks me if I want to renew protection I wasn't aware I had.
To put it in context, I lost my grandfather in February and got married in early March, and a large reason for me accumulating extensive debts has been recurring depression (confessions all around!) so in the early part of this year I wasn't coping very well with money, and have clearly added it to a pile which has grown and is only being dealt with now.
Anyway, this letter states that if I don't actively call them within fourteen days of receiving the letter they automatically renew the payment protection.
I wasn't actually aware that I had taken this out on my Barclaycard, but am I right in assuming that because this letter was sent, they will say that they have been clear with me about its existence and I have no recourse to claim?
Can anyone shed any light on the situation?
Thank you

Afraid I can't help with this but it might be worth posting it in the PPI forum rather than here.0

Are you sure it's Payment Protection and not Card Protection ?
Payment Protection doesn't normally need renewing but Card Protection does.
Card Protection covers you when you lose or have your cards stolen and is usually claimed annually, or you can sometimes take out 3 or 5 year policies. You need to clarify what it's for.0 -
Thanks, you're right, it is card protection. As PPI goes by so many names, I wasn't sure what I was dealing with.0
