Calculating timber joist sizes

Options
hi,

could anybody help, The old building regs had graphs for the span tables, nowadays they only have standard timber sizes.

I wish to calculate the live load on a span of 4040mtrs with joists of 50 x 100 at 360 centres with binders of 70 x 90 at 660 centres with a span of 3610. As it is older timber I am assuming SC4.

ie a room 4.040mtrs x 3.610 mtrs on ground floor of 3 storey building dated 1912

any ideas?

Thanks @FilthyLuka for the link, they are still tables for standardised timber, i think the last regs to have graphs might have been '76 which could be used for any timber size you wanted.

you worked out the load and span etc etc and then had the joists prepared to order.

i need to try and dig out some publications ..... pre- complicators. yikes that was nearly 40 years ago :(

    thanks again.....
