Best place to sell car for me?
Hi
I have an 08 Mini Convertible with reasonable mileage (will check what it is exactly when I go get the car after work - but it's average).
I'm hoping to sell it early next Spring (which I presume is the best time to sell convertibles?) and buy another car with the proceeds.
Looking aorund I'm hoping to get around £7-8k for my car and don't really want to spend any more than that buying a new car.
So my first question is, will car salerooms generally let you trade in a car and buy one for the same price (or even less??) I instictively think they won't - but not sure why I think that!!
Secondly - I'm quite scared about selling my car privately - I live alone, and yes I can have friends with me when I sell, but not sure how convenient that would be.
Any advice gratefully received. I've never really sold a car before, just traded in and up, but fed up of having expensive, fuel eating cars now
Thanks

We put our car on Autotrader.co.uk, it cost 40 for 2 weeks, we had lots of views and a few lower offers than we wanted to accept. We also put it on Gumtree and Ebay, again lots of views and a few lower offers.
I think Gumtree got the most response. We didn't get the offer we wanted so still have the car.
Look up your car, model, year on Autotrader, Gumtree and Ebay and see what they are selling for and maybe get some ideas how you can describe your car and what angle photos to take.
Probably a good idea to have someone with you when people come to view.0 -
you could use suresell (auction service)0

Dealers will let you do that but only by giving you a car worth far less. Best selling privately then buying I'm afraid.
I've recently had great success selling my old car through the local Facebook buy and sell group. Autotrader was £15 or something, 3 calls, no views. Facebook it sold within about 2 days for an excellent price.0 -
You could try Gumtree or LocalSquare. Best place though would be WeBuyAnyCar as the process is very simple. Go to their website and type in your car registration and they will give you a quote. Then you arrange to go and drop it off at one of their local offices. There they will give it a quick once over (very quick when I did it), check you details and a few days later the money will be transferred to your bank account. I got the price quoted on the website but they may knock ou down a bit if they discover scatches etc when giving it the once over.0

Thank you for all your replies. Not heard good reviews from We buy any car ... so will have to be brave and go private, will just have to find me a big strong man before that lol0

I was a bit nervous when I did it but WeBuyAnyCar was really simple. I guess that i went there not expecting much and therefore went away happy.
I would have thought selling privately would have been more frustrating with people just coming to "kick the tyres". Also I would be worried about the come back if someone bought my car then a week later claimed it had some problem and wanted some more money off.
I would recommend WeBuyAnyCar. Perhaps go with someone you trust, who knows a bit about cars? You can always back out, if they try to reduce you on price too much, until you have exchanged paperwork.0 -
Hi
I will go with we buy any car if I want less than the cars worth. It's really aimed at people who want a quick sale and I'll be in no rush.
thanks tho

Not true, traders will take any car as part X and many will buy for cash. £7-8 is what they might sell it for. They will offer you trade price."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Yeah, car dealers buy cars privately as well as through the trade.
WBAC don't always pay badly, particularly if it's something they can sell easy (they're part of CarCraft so use it to source cars for the showroom and just send the rest off to Auction).
I'd probably get a price off WBAC, treat that as a baseline and go round a few traders to see what they offer.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0
