HM juice

Hi all, looking at ways to cut down the shopping bill and was wondering - OH drinks a bottle a day of juice such as Coppella (750 ml) - and although I only buy when on offer it's still £7+ a week! Would I be better off investing in a juicer? Any recipes/ideas of costs anyone can share? Thankyou

He shouldn't drink that much juice. Doesn't answer your question (sorry) but contains far too much sugar so one way to save money would be to try to get him to cut down to maybe half a bottle per day.

edit - about 19 teaspoons of sugar in that bottle. Although it is just apple juice (no added sugar) with the juice you get all the sugar of far more apples than you could eat in one go and with none of the fibre and other good stuff.

I have a juicer I paid £2 for it on the bargain shelf in tesco a few yrs ago its brilliant as you can use up old, soft or bruised fruit and frozen fruit - its not like a smoothie blender and it seperates all the peel and pips. I have put every kind of fruit in there but citrus is better pressed/squeezed by hand

I sometimes dilute real juice with water or add fizzy water to make my own soft drinks...

Got to agree with this - that much juice every day will probably lead to lots of money spent at the dentist and maybe diabetes.

Cheaper all round to drink water, tea, coffee, herb teas, etc.

Pretty much any juice has a hell of a lot of sugar so even just adding a little water makes it a healthier drink. I'm slowly weening myself down and adding more water each time.

Thanks for all replies, fully aware it's a lot of sugar but he's a grown man and I'm not about to confiscate his drinks... Funnily enough he did say he was going to book a dentists appointment soon! Especially thanks to Natlie, will have to have a look in Tesco soon.

What does everyone drink when they're at home then?! We don't drink tea or coffee indoors, I drink water but he won't... Just managed to wean him off fizzy drinks and he goes through phases of downing milk but that comes and goes.

Ha! Good point. If only there were more women like you! Low sugar cordial is better in a sense but artificial sweeteners have other problems. Watering down juice a little would improve it slightly as mentioned. You could sneak a bit in when he wasn't looking and I bet he won't notice. If he does, expect him to give you a crack though (rightly) as we do here in Yorkshire.

I like the idea of watering down, and if I've juiced/squeezed it myself I can easily chuck some extra water in there...!

Someone I used to work with, who was a fencer at national level and a coach for the British fencing team at the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, told me how athletes make their own "isotonic" drink.

Simply 50:50 cheap orange juice and cheap bottled water (fizzy or still) plus a pinch of salt.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

Get him to the GP for a diabetes test whilst you're at it. That's a ridiculous amount of juice to be going through.
