Hi All
A few years ago my neighbour planted a russian vine, also known as mile a minute at the bottom of her garden, at the moment due to the time of year it is still dormant but give a couple of months and it'll be groundhog day with day of the triffids all over again. To be honest, she didnt realise how quick and vast this plant would grow so she has agreed that the best thing to do would be to kill it if we can as we can't face another summer of cutting it back every week!
we think as the plant is currently dormant now would be a good time to attack it!
what product would be best to ensure we kill it off for good?
thanks

They can be a swine to kill, I chopped mine at the base, and poured 3 litres of creosote on the roots, nothing else grew there except you guessed it the flamin russian vine. Try and dig it out, and look for every scap of root or it will come back and get you!!!!0

Oh nooooooo I just cut mine down to the roots a couple of weeks ago, thinking "that's the end of you, you swine"
Suppose I had better go and do some more work on itA friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0 -
Pouring creosote over the ground will poison your soil for ever and a day!
A better bet would be to cut it down now, then allow new leaves to form, and once almost fully opened, put Roundup on the leaves. This will allow the product to be taken into the roots of the plant but will leave the soil and other nearby plants unaffected. You may need to treat the vine several times before it is completely dead as it is indeed very strong and vigorous besides smelling (in my opinion) just like cat's wee!0 -

Try Root-Out or Deep Root (which have been reprieved from Euro bureaucracy - yippee!).
Cut the main stems down to about a foot high then follow the instructions for using the crystals dry (drill holes, fill with crystals, cover and leave).
Don't remove the foliage and stems yet, leave for another few weeks and they should be good and dry ready to go straight on the bonfire (if you're allowed in your area).0 -
my neighbour has this and next spring its going to be all over the trees t the back of my boundary blocking hlf the light.
I hate the darn thing - the problem being it is maybe 40/50 feet in the air now running along established trees - i fail to see why i should have to curtail it growing over my boundary trees?! How the hell i get this down i have no idea0
