RCI - Aegean Blue. scratchcard scam

just returned from a holiday in Rhodes, on our 2nd to last day, we were approched by a Aegean BLue rep - giving out scratch cards, my two sons and myself and my partner all got one each. we were told that there would be no winners, and he was just trying to get the company name publicised. one of our children won ( in hindsight of course one of us would) anyway we were persuaded to follow a taxi, to a resort, and we would be able to find out what he had won, Ipad, MP3 player, a weeks holiday or some wine. already we were a little wary. we were told to expect a 75 minute presentation, both my partner and i were a little sceptical, both straight away asking if it was a timeshare. we were told dozens of times that it was not. after 4 hours! we eventually agreed to sign upto the deal of a lifetime. 6 weeks of holidays, where we choose the holiday out of thousands of areas worldwide. we paid out £1200.oo deposit, and then 4 subsequent payments of £600 a month are to be taken. only stipulation is our first week has to be in Crete next Easter. we have to find our flights but accomodation is all 4/5 star. we were shown a room on the Rhodes complex and it was superb, also told that the accomodation was of the lowest standard we could expect. we asked lots of questions and even saw a legal lady, who again read all the paperwork out to us. We got home late last night and have started to Google RCI and aegean blue. well it is the worlds biggest timeshare holiday company, we were told that almost all the holiday companies went through RCI when booking holidays, and we could cut out the middle man, I even asked why it wasnt sold in uk, apparently some of the bigger holiday operators would not like it. but everything seemed so good. Anyone had any experience with RCI and any advice. trying to cancel credit card payment is a night mare, we've to wait for it to be taken before we can do anything.. HELP???

RCI do not sell timeshares or holiday clubs, so that is the first of what I expect were many lies. RCI is an exchange company where if you have a week you don't want to use you can put it into a pot and look for somewhere else, at an additional cost.

It is not clear what you have bought, certainly not property rights, possibly 'points' which if they are for stays in Greece in April are probably of very little value. You have paid £3600 for a week in Crete in April as far as I can see, without flights? Their website doesn't have any address or telephone number, I would be tempted to cancel any further payments, and save yourself another £2400. Read the documents, is there an address in Gibraltar anywhere, if so be very wary, what exactly have you bought?

You were told when given the scratchcards there would be NO winners yet you still followed a taxi to see what you had won.
  • we were told that the scratchcards would have no winners, but when one of ours did have 'a win' they told us it could be an Ipad, so our 13 year old was so excited, we went along with it. in hindsight should have smelled a rat!

If you've been caught by these people, go have a look at this link
    Timeshare.org.uk/cancel
and then this page also timeshare.org.uk/tr10
Sorry I can't make them links, this is my first post.
If you've been told that you have no cooling off period under Greek law, they were lying. You AUTOMATICALLY have 14 days, under EU law, which Greece has implemented, for starters. Also, your contract should have 11 points on it (all listed on here), especially that you have 14 days to cancel, and that NO MONEY should be taken until the 14 days is up. If the point about the 14 days isn't there, you now get 3 months & 14 days. If you were NOT given a PRO-FORMA cancellation notice (and lets face it, who is?) you now get 1 Year and 14 days to cancel. This legislation covers 'Holiday Clubs', which is what they call themselves so they don't have to abide by the rules governing timeshares, but it is STILL a timeshare. The site is set up by The Timeshare Consumers Association, so they have done the research.
