Paying in a possibly cancelled cheque

I was given a cheque a couple of months ago which I didn't pay into my account immediately and I think in the meantime the person who gave it me may have cancelled it, I'm not sure though. If I pay it into my account and it turns out it is cancelled, will I then get charges from my bank? I have the option of paying it into Natwest, Santander or Halifax if it makes any difference.

Depends on your bank. some will charge, some won't -you need to check the T&Cs of your account. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

why not ring the person who issued you the cheque.
Obviously, they would have to have a reason to cancel it, do you know what it was.
Just tell them you lost the cheque for a while and you are now going to present it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

.
My guess would be because the cheque was not presented straight away.
OP.
Was this cheque posted to you ? If it was they would think it had got lost in the post.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
It was posted, and yes I guessed as it had been a while and they had tried to contact me but couldnt, that they might have cancelled. I'm just going to pay it in and see what happens. I have found that my bank won't charge if it does go unpaid.0
