Hi,
We we're hoping to take my mother-in-law on a cruse around the med sailing from Southampton, but I had totally forgotten about insurance.
Does anyone have any suggestions about some reasonable (!?!) insurance for an 80 year old how has suffered a stock last year? Is this simply going to be cost prohibitive or uninsurable?
Advice welcome.

Might be as well to look at the specific insurers for the elderly i.e. Age UK; Saga; etc. Doubt they'll be cheap but will, hopefully, be reasonable.
Or try one of the comparison sites (Moneysupermarket, Compare the Market etc) and input your needs.Normal people worry me.0 -
Once you get to quite specialist requirements the cruise company retained insurance provider can be a worthwhile choice.
Also try LV as they have an excellent online medical screening system.0 -
Try Flexicover (code EC812 for a discount) they cover my husband who has had a stroke.

Hi,

It might worth looking at Saga cruises as they bundle insurance, as well as gratuities, into the price. They also include shuttles into port cities as well as chauffeur pickups if you live within 250 miles of the embarkation port.
They attract an older passenger group and won't give you all the bells and whistles of the first cruise you were looking at but they might prove a more practical solution for your MIL's circumstances.

If your MIL's condition has been stable for the past 12 months, ie no change in medication, then I would try calling www.eta.co.uk0

I use https://www.essentialtravel.co.uk They will cover for almost any condition."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Cheers Guys.
Mands - I checked out Saga and although I thought they were expensive, they would blow the budget completely. The cheapest cruse to the Canneries for 12 days is £1650pp - nearly twice the price of other cruses I have been looking at. Whilst this might be OK if it we're just my MIL and one other, as there are going to be at least 4 of us (possibly now 5), the additional cost would be crucifying for us.
The MIL had her stoke almost a year ago, but only left hospital just before Christmas. She is on warferin and the does change depending on blood test results which happen regularly. My feeling is that some insurers might count this as too soon. Still I will give them a try.0 -

FYI
The standard ETA insurance will not cover the MIL, however, the do an extended version that did provide cover. Approx £400 for medical only cover, £575 for all travel related insurance.
Unfortunately, Essential Travel's upper age limit is 74, so no go.
Flexcover - Gold cover (so all travel related insurance) + Medical Screening for her stroke - £320
LV - Essential £83, Premier £96. Both have her condition listed, however, neither premium covers ANY claim listed for her pre-existing condition - which kinda defeats the object of the insurance!
Age UK - £282 - All covered
Saga - £310 - All covered.
All of these were quoted for a single trip, two week break at the end of September to the Canary Islands0
