Calculating wallpaper rolls

Hi

I'm being completely stupid but cannot for the life of me work out how many rolls of wallpaper I will need for my lounge

The wall in question is 186" wide and the drop is 90"

The wallpaper is 20.5" x 396" - it has no match. I worked that out to be 2.5 rolls (getting 9 drops to a roll) but when I look at the wall, that seems too few

Can anyone help?

Thank

you wont get 9 drops from a roll, only 3-4 at the most.

as aggy says 396" drop 3-4 drops from a roll.

your wall is 90" drop - 4 x 90 = 360" which would leave 36" for trimming so if you overcut each length by 9" only (for trimming) you could manage it. Assuming no match, of course.

Most DIY retailers will take back unused paper anyway.

Dear me, how stupid am I???? I had ridiculously divided 186 by 20.5 and assumed that meant I would get 9 drops per roll!!!

It's totally obvious now that I've read comments.

Thank you all for replying and for not flaming me for the most stupid question of the day!!

I had this problem so i asked my neighbour who has the same size room..i got the same amount of rolls as he did,he told me to get 12 rolls....but when i finished i had 3 rolls left over..i told him "how can it be right? i had 3 rolls left over"
He said it was right as he had 3 rolls left over also...so all good
  • in the old days 3 drops a roll was the standard guestimate.

MY OH says 3 drops if there is a pattern, and 4 if not.

Just a tip OP. when pasting on a pasting table, put the paper
along the top edge of the table, paste 3/4 of it, then pull your paper to the edge nearest to you and paste the rest.

This saves getting paste on the front of the wallpaper.

Agree 3 if patern 4 if no patern..Always better to buy to many rolls than not enough you can always return full rolls for a refund
