Amazon Kindle issue

I was given a kindle for Christmas 2010 (I have the gift receipt) It has totally stopped working and after speaking to Amazon they advised it can't be fixed. They have told me that as it is outside of the warranty they will not replace it, and have offered me a 5% discount on a new one, which I have said is unacceptable. I quoted SOG to them about "reasonable amount of usage" and they are getting back to me, but just wanted to get a general consensus on here as to what people think and whether it is worth pushing them. I am happy to pay something towards a replacement, that seems fair as it is 19 months old, but a 5% discount seems paltry to me! Many thanks in advance

Are you sure they said 5% and not 50%?

It's not a daft question, I ask because my Kindle stopped working in May when it was just over a year old (typical!) and they offered me a replacement for £40.00, which is half it's retail price.
You had me at your proper use of "you're".
  • Sadly yes. They quoted prices not %, and I did the calculations myself to work out that it was just over 5%. I would be happy with the 50% if they offered me that, seems reasonable to me. I am hoping they come back with something like that in all honesty.

Amazon do a lot of research into your purchase history, if you buy a lot of books then it's in their interest to keep you in the ecosystem, if not, well you get a worse deal.

I have got around 300 books on my kindle at the moment, which I don't think is too bad since Jan 11, and I reckon 75% of those are purchased rather than free downloads.
