Are we sure that daughter has not signed up for something that she does not remember?

Almost. The customer asks the bank for a refund under the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme (not an Indemnity claim - this is something different and is not immediate).

I beg to differ - an indemnity is made because of the direct debit guarantee - and it is immediate, i should know i work in finance with indemnities!!

    Define immediate?

So you call in the branch just as they are closing and expect the money back straightaway - not feasible IMO.

I did a DD indemnity with Lloyds, and it was there the following morning, then company was re-paid (it was showing as bounced on the account for the company it went to).

    I think that's fair enough.

HSBC did do it straight away (on the phone), when an account payment hadn't gone through to Addison Lee, so it depends on the bank in all honesty.

Occasionally, it's not realistic in practice.

its not realistic but that's what printed on any direct debit letter so you can argue the case.
  • I'm not sure what the question is here but surely your daughter could have just changed her account number, not entire account?
