Landlord property poorly decorated

Hi all, well here goes for my frost post.i had a viewing 5 weeks ago via a letting agent.when viewing the house was in a bit of a mess not what seemed cosmetic but kids stuff from existing tenants everywhere.however since they have moved out and picked up my keys today.the letting agent said the place had been professionally cleaned and also been decorated.the landlord is managing it himself.when I turned the key and walked in my heart sunk.the house was fine but the walls oh my.firstly I must have counted about 70 nails in the walls all at differing heights.all had been painted over with what I would call a thin skim of white over magnolia. All the magnolia paint was bleeding through and looked horrible.the nails it's pull out as only in plasterboard. Lazygits. What are my rights as The place needs redecorating again or at least another coat of paint.i don't want to rock the boat but I'm paying a premium price to live and look at the bad decor. Help me !!!!!,!

Have you shared your concerns with your landlord? they might think it looks ok.

  • Your rights: none, pretty much. It's the LLs property and he has redecorated as he said he would. Just because it's not what you like or not of the quality you thought doesn't mean anything.

    What you can do:

    - speak to the LL and see if he will redecorate, be prepared for him to say no.
    - ask for permission to redecorate and either pay for it yourself or ask if the LL will pay a contribution
    - don't ask for permission paint it then re-paint it to white before moving out. Be aware that this could cause problems as many tenancies forbid redecorating without permission.
    - live with it, find another place when tenancy is up
    - agree with the LL an early surrender, find another place.
