Credit Agreement proof of identity

Can anyone advise if it is acceptable for photocopies of driving license & passport to be used as proof of identity and address or do the original documents have to be produced?
If photocopies were supplied is the credit agreement invalid?

Its up to the lender what they accept. If they were satisfied with photocopies then thats ok.

Someone desperately trying to avoid repaying a debt?

    Little bit childish isn't it?
  • Thanks for the response but is there nothing under the credit agreement act or the money laundering regulations that states they must be originals although I haven't found any reference to this yet
  • Not trying to avoid anything thanks just feel as though i've been stitched up in the small print

While the law of the land is non-specific, I'd expect the FSA to fine any organisation accepting photocopies as standard several million pounds.

Didn't you read the small print before signing?

Are you saying it wasn't you that took out the loan?
If so, did you not wonder where all that money came from?
  • It's a personal contract hire for a motor vehicle not a cash loan. regulated under the consumer credit act 1974. I'm not in arrears with payments or never have been. I am just looking for a way to cancel the contract and return the vehicle without having to pay the contact up in full......15months of a 24month contract hence looking for a potential loophole in the procedures they perhaps should have followed or clear information they should have made me aware of relating to get out clauses.

Sounds like you are trying to wriggle out of a perfectly fair agreement that you entered willingly into thereby leaving the supplier out of pocket.

Does that sound an honest thing to do?
