Premium Choice Cancellation dispute

Hi guys,

I am new to this and looking for some advice on my current situation with the insurance company Premium Choice.

I have had them sort my car insurance for 2 years and renewed with them october 2011. In March 2012 I called to ask how to cancel as I now recieve a company car with my new job and no need to pay insurance on my personal vehicle as I wont be driving it. They advised me to write a letter telling them I wish to cancel and a copy of my insurance certificate and then its done. So I did, a few days later I had a letter from them wishing to confirm the policy is being cancelled.....all is good..... 1 week later I get another letter to confirm the policy is now cancelled, thank you for your business.....great! Forgot about it......I then moved house and didnt think twice about the old insurance. 2 months later I get a call from a debt collection agency stating I owe premium choice £195 plus their fee of £30 and admin charges of £20 because I owe the remainder of the contract. I disputed, asking for their terms and conditions and a statement of what I owe. I got the t&c's nowhere does it say in the cancellation section that if I cancel after 14 day cooling off period I will be liable to pay the remainder of the policy, nor does it even give a exit fee from the policy..... I called them to dispute and PC claimed they have sent me several letters to my old address with an invoice and had no reply....I told them I moved and it was their fault for not informing me in writing or over the phone that further communication or fees would be coming my way....they wouldnt listen and just kept reading from a script "read the t&c and you have to deal with the debt collectors now"....

Any advice you guys could give on the best way to go about this would be great!! I have done some research and there is quite a number of people with negative reviews on PC.....dont use them!! Wish I hadnt now...

Thanks

If you believe they have not followed the cancellation terms in their own documentation then raise a formal complaint and say you will take it to the FOS if you do not get a satisfactory response.

Wait for their final response or for 8 weeks (whichever is sooner) and pass it to the FOS for them to review
