I found this on the mobtorbility web site

    The use of location trackers
The Motability lease package includes cover for two named drivers, however regardless of who is driving; the car should always be used for the benefit of the disabled customer.!To ensure that our customers are gaining direct benefit from their Motability car, Motability has started to fit a limited number of location trackers to applications for new cars where the risk of potential misuse is highest, for example customers who permanently live in a care home and have a number of drivers who have access to the car.!

We expect to fit location trackers in fewer than five percent of the more than 600,000 cars leased through Motability.!Where a location tracker has been identified as appropriate we will always speak to the customer in advance of the tracker being fitted.!Data will only be collected on the location of a car at any given point and we will only make use of this data where we receive a report, or suspect, that a car may be being misused.

Location trackers are just one of the many ways that we act to protect the Scheme from misuse and to ensure that the cars are used for the benefit of our customers.!

I know the tracker scheme won't apply to your mum it's not a new car, but it does mention customers who live in a care home so they must lease to those in a home or they wouldn't put that bit in the rules. I don't know how it would stand if someone were to go in a home after getting the car so I guess it would be best to phone and enquire
not all on benefits are scroungers and don't need to be bullied!

Hi Im not qualified to give professional advice on this but I would assume even if your father does have to go into a home it should make no difference to his motability car as it would be the same if he was housebound in his own home. The car is to help him whether it is to transport him about or being used to get shopping for him.Im sure even if he is in a care home he will be able to get out even for a few hours and the car could be used then to transport him.
Regarding purchasing the car I think its still possible to do this after 3 years however im not sure if you would get a discount above what you would in a dealers but you would know the car and know it was serviced as required.
One last point, motability will send you out a form which if your mum and father sign will allow your mother to deal with motability in future and take descisions in his name regarding the car if he is unable to,best of luck to your father and family in dealing with what I know is a tragic illness.
