If money is tight, why don't you have the christening to coincide with your birthday? It will make a nice reminder every year too.

Why not put the dogs in kennels for the day?

We have 3 dogs so cost would be a big factor there, that and they haven't ever been put in kennels before. I don't really want to put them in kennels if I can help it.

My birthday is 11th Feb and for as long as I can remember it has snowed the week before hand and we would have relatives travelling which would mean they couldn't make it.

Also I don't ever do anything for my Birthday so it wouldn't really make a saving at all.

not sure about the christening bit, but we had a naming ceremony for our two children. We hired a hall for about £60 and then the family all chipped in to provide the food and drinks. If there's only 20 people, and you're doing tea and cake rather than a buffet then it shouldn't cost much at all. I agree about the dogs, there's no need to specifically mention it on the invites. I think most people would expect your pets to be at your home. Unless they are particularly unruly or likely to steal people's cake I wouldn't worry :)

The Christening sounds lovely, and well done you for getting organised so early.

I would budget £50-£100 to be on the safe side!

Without sounding like I'm paranoid about snow lol - if you're worried about it (too), hold the Christening later in the year. My birthday's in April and it's snowed a few times on that! I certainly woudn't risk an event where people might be no-shows cos of the weather (if it were a big deal to me that they were there!).

    May would be nice...

If it is a big birthday of sorts (or you do want to consider doing something next year), you could always have a 'bring a dish instead of a bottle' daytime party after!
