  • Does she go to a nursery? Our fabulous babysitter was one of my younger daughters nursery nurses who is glad of the extra pennies!

Do any of your friends or neighbours have reliable teens who could babysit to earn a few bob?

Try this company www.sitters.co.uk . I use them regularly and have always been really impressed by their professionalism. The babysitters on their books are all crb checked. The rates are really reasonable too.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I can agree with all recommendations so far. Another one you could try is childcare.co.uk (sorry can't post links). We have found 2 lovely girls who babysit on an adhoc basis when we have date nights from there.

Cost is definitely a factor and depending on where we go the babysitter can cost more than the night out but I justify that with "it's worth it for some 'us' time".

I used to babysit some boys that I found the family/they found me on the childcare.co.uk website.

I also used to babysit for my Dads work friends, and lots of neighbours.

Do you or your hubby work with anyone who has teens?

Then now Im older I started baby sitting for my husbands clients a few years ago! I dont really do it anymore but thats how I found people to babysit for anyhow. And then they would recommend me to another friend.

So maybe your friends might have someone they use that you could ask for the number of?

Local pre-schools/playgroups - even if your little tot doesn't go there. Or Infant schools. Don't have children myself but I do a great deal of babysitting.

You could also try (as a last resort, but worth it) your local council's education authority - I used to do chaperoning for children in theatres and production of TV shows and the council did my CRB checks - they might well be able to pass your details to a suitable local CRB-checked person.

I don't do too much of it these days due to time and other commitments. I can't have kids myself and my little niece and nephew live miles away - I LOVE reading the bedtime stories and listening to the chatter of small children. I've rarely heard more sense in life than the thoughts expressed by tots whose minds are so alive and open.

Hope you find a great babysitter who gets on with you and your little special person soon! x

I would second the suggestion of trying the nursery or preschool there will be younger staff in their final stage of training but will have had all the relevant checks etc who would probably be glad of the extra cash.

We used the teenage daughters of our childminder and one of our neighbours. Girls we knew and trusted and who, importantly, had an experienced, nearby adult to call on in an emergency
