Hi got a chance of booking a cheap break at pontins southport, before i go ahead and book it, just wondering what the actual park and surrounding area is like, as it is a 4 hour trek for us so dont want to put a 10, 9, and 2 and half year old thru all that travelling to find the park not much cop, and not alot to do in the surrounding areas, we have been to camber sands and pakefield before, just wondering what southport is like in comparison?
TIA

Look on tripadvisor. Not good...."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
Not good at all but if your going soon the 300+ students that live there are not back .but you may get one of there rooms . Oh luck lucky you . Ainsdale beach and southport are very nice and a short trip to Liverpool for a day out too:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

We have been and no we wouldnt go again. Ive 3 children too and the place was dire. A fold out metal bed that has masking tape on and it was just filthy sorry. But yes Liverpool was close by on the train so we made the most of itMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
Also it's a fair old walk to Southport and there are better seaside towns, on the plus side there is usually an airshow early to mid September, which IIRC you only pay to park so if you're on foot then it's free.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

pontins has now been bought out by a large hotel chain...can't remember the name, but if you check on this i think you might find that their accommadation has been re-furbished. Formby point near by and a really nice day out if you like a good beach and there is pine woods there aswell. We went there about 5 years ago. Nice shopping in near by southport.0

Having read previous reviews we arrived with some resevations regarding resort cleanliness and facilities.
And rightly so , £130 for four nights seems like a bargain but it was £130 completely wasted, place was dirty , full of people straight off Jeremy Kyle show.
If that experience has taught me one thing - put your hand in your pocket and book a decent holiday.
Pontins - where everyone enjoys their last day !
Never a more true statement.

I grew up around Southport. Pontins in Ainsdale is a 15 minute walk from Ainsdale station where you can get a train into Liverpool (about 30 minutes) or Southport (about 10 minutes). Apart from the beach there isn't really anything to do in Ainsdale. Formby/ Freshfield is 5 minutes on the train (or a nice cycle if you're taking bikes) and is nice little towb and the pine woods are good if you get to see squirrels (they disappeared for years, but apparently are being seen now- get off at Freshfield if on the train).
In Southport there is splashworld, cinema, bowling for kids (10 minutes drive from Pontins). The airshow is always good, but it hasn't been free to foot visitors for years- advance tickets are £7. I went a few years ago (my mum won some tickets) on a very rainy/ windy day and it was good even though it was a bit miserable). My neighbour went last year with his 12 year old son who loved it. There's also the fireworks championship in September which is really good (£5 advance tickets).
Pontins itself doesn't have a great reputation locally, but I have never stayed there. I went to the swimming pool a few times and it was always a bit grotty, but that was probably 10 years ago.0 -
We went a few weeks ago, lots of the 'apartments have been reburshed, but the other ones are really dire.
Sorry, Pontins, the kids seemed to like it but it really is full of Chavs.
The food was excellent and pretty cheap for what you get.
You really would be better avoiding this one to be honest.
Expensive for what you get.
We went on a coach holiday for 5 days, okay for a short break.
Try the North East Coast Primrose Valley, Blue Dolphinmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
