Why are you even waiting for it to go on the market? You can both save time and they can save money on agents fees, so hopefully you'll get a slightly better price as a result.

And for goodness sake, stop acting like a stalker and just be straight.

"I think I would be interested in buying your house. Obviously I can't make any promises but could you tell me how much you will be asking for it and whether it would be okay for me to come back and have a look around sometime soon?"

Simple ;) You can put it in a note or say it straight to their faces.

Once you've been around, we'll guide you through the rest :).

What they paid for their house and how much they've paid for the new one are pretty inconsequencial unless you've managed to get hold of their payslips and account details too!

  • I dont have their account details no lol but i do know that they are leaving the house to be dealt with by EA once they move. They have bought the new house cash and just want to move cutting all ties.

I see what you are saying about a private sale but i didnt really want to sound too interested in the house and i doubt we could agree on a price.

They have mentioned the price they think they will get to another neighbour which is the same as our house is worth

The differences being they have no central heating, not full DG, no conservitory, the roof tiles have been blowing off one by one for years, the house looks like it has stood empty for 10 years, the smell of 6 dogs has taken its toll over the years and the paint on the kitchen walls was done 9/10 years ago when it was rented out so i dont hold out much hope that the rest of the house has been done

Voluntarily taking on a six figure debt? Sounds mental to me, right enough.

Well if they're asking too much then a private sale is probably more likely to get you that discount you need as it's saving them a tidy sum of money.

We are just renting this house at the moment, ours is about £200 a month cheaper than it should be as its just a casual arrangement hence why their house would be perfect.

If ours was to be sold, the owner wants to return or they put the rent up we would be paying the same amount in rent for a much smaller house as we would a mortgage on their house.

Obviously we have a price in mind that we could afford but its around 20k less than they think they will get.

Its a nice place but we are miles and miles from anything, no shops, pubs, gas etc and houses dont come up that often - people seem to stay here all their lives lol

That said people dont rush to buy here because we are so out of the way and the last couple of houses have gone for well under the asking price and have been sold to builders
