Halifax Credit Card PPI

I have only just got round to looking into this whole PPI thing and just wanted some advice really.
I have PPI on my Halifax Credit Card, which I was told was a condition of being offered the credit card when I applied in branch about 5 years ago. I didn't know there was anything wrong with that and as I didn't have the most fantastic credit history and was worried about not getting one elsewhere, so although I didn't really want or need the PPI I went ahead so I could have the credit card. I've kept it on as it was only a few quid a month and I thought they would cancel/withdraw the card if I tried to cancel the PPI, plus I've just never thought about it til now.
Just wondering if this is a valid claim and if I'm likely to suceed? Should I cancel the PPI first?
Also, Halifax are in the process of transferring the PPI to another company, still within the Lloyds Banking Group though. Will this affect/complicate my claim? Anyone any experience with re-claiming PPI on a Halifax Credit Card?
Thanks in advance
