Turning 25 - Need 'any car' cover

Hi,
I have a decision to make. My insurance is up for renewal at end of the month but I am not 25 years old for another 3 weeks. I will have 3 years NCD, the car is 12 year old. I am worried I'll not be able to drive ANY car on my new insurance due to being under 25 plus it'll be a higher quote, excess etc. as I will be applying as a 24 year old.
I have been told by a company that this is all taken into account but doubt this is actually the case.
I have though about taking temp cover for the 3 weeks but any advice would be welcome.
Cheers v much!

Not all policies allow driving other cars.
Most if not all state the other cars must be insured.
And the wording is usually excludes drivers under 25. So once your 25 you should be OK without changing policies.
Dont forget its only 3rd party cover. So any claims wont repair that car. Unless you can prove it was someone elses fault and claim from them.

This is usually the sort of scenario where it's better to sack off the comparison sites and talk to a local broker.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Likewise you cannot own the vehicle nor can it be hired or leased to you.
Why do you need Driving Other Cars so badly?0 -
Generally, too, the driving of other cars extension is for Emergency Use Only, not suitable for general use.
What other cars do you need to be able to drive? You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

Misleading!
This is not "generally" the case at all, and where have you seen this?
(Who defined "Emergency Use Only"?)0 -

This is the OP's problem.
He is 24 when his policy is due for renewal, and he won't get DOC cover.
It won't be shown on his certificate.
Unless he can find an insurer who gives it to 24 year olds, then he will have to get another policy after he is 25 to get this cover.0 -

There is a wheeze whereby you take out a couple of new policies and cancel them during the cooling off period (look for insurers who don't charge any/high cancellation fees) to cover the 3 weeks till you are 25.
The risk is that you have a claim whilst in the cooling off period, and are then stuck with paying for the full year's premium if you want to cancel after your burthday.
(The higher excess you are worried about is the compulsory excess under 25s pay - this is age related, so you only have to pay it if you are under 25 on the date of the incident that lead to a claim ie. you don't pay it in the event of a claim after you are 25 irrespective of being 24 when taking out the policy)0 -
RBS Ins brands used to have this and they were not the only ones but they have subsequently withdrawn the wording.Misleading!

As you say, emergency was hard to define and was designed more as a deterrent than as an enforceable clause (probably the reason for dropping it)0 -

Well......this is strange.
Only last week you were also wrongly scaremongering about DOC being for "emergency only":InsideInsurance wrote: »You need to read the terms of the Driving Other Cars part of your g/friends policy. Almost all these days say it is "for emergencies" etc and so if they got wind that this is a regular occurrence then there could be issues.
Although you were corrected, you chose not to edit your misinformation, yet today seem to have a different view??0 -
Hi there, if it's any use I am 25 and have just taken out a VERY competitive deal with Hastings insurance who have turned out to be the easiest and quickest insurers I have used to date. Without asking or prompting the policy overs me on all cars - very different to most! Give them a try.
