chip on some rendering needs repairing

We recently moved house and noticed a chip about 3 inches out of some rendering on a small extension, its on a corner and really sticks out. We want to paint the rendering this year so in order to repair it would prior to painting can the chip be filled in with pointing mortar. I bought some Hansol re-pointing mortar the other day for little jobs at Wilko, wondered if that would be fine and if yes would it be wise to add some of that glue stuff you mix in to make it adhere better. Thanks

    Hi Poppycat,

Mix some "glue stuff" with a little water and paint on chipped area. wait about 10 mins and then fill hole with sand/cement mix. Your premixed bagged stuff will be fine. Leave for about 3 days and when dry, paint on some more of the water/glue mixture to "seal in" and then paint.

Paint the damaged area with unibond or other wp pva and let it go tacky.. in the mean time mix a little fine sand and cement or your repoining mortar and use unibond to wet it and spread in the area.

Just bought a 5 litre tin of trade pva and two tins of Trade weathershield.

We repaired the render with sand and cement a while back and applied a coat of pva diluted with water, applied one coat of weathershield and another later.

We have some render thats flacky and some brick window ledges flacky, when we took some of the loose masonry paint it looks like it had been painted with gloss. Will masonry paint adhere to the gloss if we apply diluted pva glue? Thanks
