Stupidly paid late on balance transfer cc.

Hi All

I stupidly paid a my July payment late on my Virgin CC I had a 0% balance transfer.

As I have paid late I have now lost the 0% and now have to pay the normal rate. Totally my fault.

What I would like to know is how long do you think I should wait before applying for another card with a 0% balance transfer.

Thanks for any replies.

What you should do is call MBNA, explain your error, apologise, tell them it won't happen again, maybe even set up a Direct Debit so they can see it won't happen again, ask very nicely, suck up to them a little and you'll probably get your 0% period reinstated.

Good! I hope you get it back, but please do learn from it as they'll usually only give you the one chance to put it right.
Let us know how you get on.

Anecdotal evidence on here seems to be that they may reinstate the deal if you're within the first 3 months (are you?).

However, to answer your question...you'd be better making an application ASAP, ie before they update the CRAs. You may be too late though, if your July/August statement has already been produced...probably has?

...but before the next statement was produced, or after it?

If the former, you may find it doesn't get reported to the CRAs.
    Totally my fault.
Makes a refreshing change to see an OP take that approach. :)

Whooooo, just called and spoke to a very nice young man and he has reinstated my % interst for me. He said it would be a shame to lose out on such a great deal and as it was my first time he would reinstate it.

I have to pay the full amount for August as the statement had already been produced but its back on for Sept.

Have now set up a direct debit with them for the minimum amount.

    Thanks for your help.:j

Some advice, but no doubt they also told you too...

Be sure to check the next statement thoroughly. If it does not say that the payment will be collected by DD it won't be...and you'll be back in the same place you were in July!...so make sure you pay by other means until the message appears on your statement.

Yeah I was advised to do the direct debit, thought it was better to be safe than sorry and I know that I have to make the August payment myself, the dd starts in sept.

I didn't get a lecture from them, they were very nice about it and understanding, this time, won't risk it again!!!
